Sony Pictures To Make Movie Based on the Board

Not all board game to movie adaptations are a completely bad idea. For instance, Battleship has the potential to be a very cool water-based war film, especially with Peter Berg at the helm. But when does a brand name hurt the adapted property? Would a Battleship movie be taken more seriously if it weren't named after a board game? Why does Universal need to pay the rights for the name anyways?The same could be said for Sony Pictures latest acquisition, the rights to the Hasbro-owned board game Risk. Yes, an large scale strategic epic world war movie could end up being pretty damn awesome... but does it really need to be released under the name "Risk"? Doesn't the board game title sort of belittle whatever eventual product that comes out? And couldn't you just make the large scale epic war film without even buying the property? The English language trailer for Salt has appeared online, just shortly after the Russian one was leaked, now this is the way to deal with leaks, follow it up and quash it with the release of the proper version as soon as possible. See, we're all going to have forgotten about the Russian version, except for the Russian audience obviously, for the English speakers amongst us the new trailer adds something else, story and narrative. Ever since Sergio Leone made his pair of 'Once Upon a Time..." movies (a masterful pair of films at that) other writers and directors have cribbed the title for their own work. Jet Li gained popularity with Once Upon a Time in China. Robert Rodriguez obviously nodded to Leone with Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and Quentin Tarantino did the same with the title card and early tagline for Inglourious Basterds. ("Once Upon a Time in Occupied France...") Now Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy will be able to add their script, Once Upon a Time in Hell, to the list. After being listed on the 2009 Black List of popular unproduced screenplays, their work has been bought by Phoenix Pictures. The first poster for the upcoming war film “Green Zone,” based on Rajiv Chandrasekaran’s nonfiction book “Imperial Life in the Emerald City: Inside Iraq’s Green Zone,” has been released.

“Green Zone” Plot: ?During the U.S.-led occupation of Baghdad in 2003, Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller (Damon) and his team of Army inspectors were dispatched to find weapons of mass destruction believed to be stockpiled in the Iraqi desert. Rocketing from one booby-trapped and treacherous site to the next, the men search for deadly chemical agents but stumble instead upon an elaborate cover-up that inverts the purpose of their mission.

Spun by operatives with intersecting agendas, Miller must hunt through covert and faulty intelligence hidden on foreign soil for answers that will either clear a rogue regime or escalate a war in an unstable region. And at this blistering time and in this combustible place, he will find the most elusive weapon of all is the truth.?

The film is directed by Paul Greengass (Bourne Supremacy, United 93, Bourne Ultimatum). The script was written by Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential, Conspiracy Theory, Mystic River, Man on Fire).

?Green Zone? stars Matt Damon, Greg Kinnear, Amy Ryan, Brendan Gleeson, Jason Isaacs, Khalid Abdalla and is set for a March 12, 2010 release.

Grant Heslov-directed dark comedy is based on the 2004 book of the same name by the Guardian columnist Jon Ronson ? from the script written by Peter Straughan (?How to Lose Friends & Alienate People?) stars George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey, Jeff Bridges, Rebecca Mader and Terry Serpico.

A reporter (McGregor), trying to lose himself in the romance of war after his marriage fails, gets more than he bargains for when he meets a special forces agent (Clooney) who reveals the existence of a secret, psychic military unit whose goal is to end war as we know it. The founder of the unit has gone missing and the trail leads to another psychic soldier who has distorted the mission to serve his own ends.
