The Proper Care and Feeding of an American
Messiah [Movie Review]

Most people accused Spinal Tap of being soldiers of Satan when they were touring and demanding we give them some money. Anyone who's seen "The Office" might get the impression that Michael Scott's in league with the fork-tailed one. It's no secret how much of The Proper Care and Feeding ...

Contestant's Werecoyote Secret Revealed On
Shocking 'Bachelorette' Premiere [Full Moons]

We had barely recovered from last week's whirlwind The Bachelor finale—an unrepentantly romantic affair which saw Lorenzo Lamas marry off his youngest neglected daughter to a Mary Poppins background player—when the ABC reality TV mating rite began anew. On last night's The Bachelorette premiere, the gender scenario is reversed, with 25 eager-to-wed penis-havers (or at least eager to nab some sweet national airtime plus a chance at nailing a reality semi-star) vie for the attentions of one deeply desirable, not-getting- any-younger- if-you- know-what- we-mean goddess. The lucky lady in question? The Bachelor season 11 finalist DeAnna Pappas, whom your might remember as having had her still-beating heart plucked right out of her chest in an episode we like to refer to as Indiana Womack and the Gazebo of Commitmentphobic Doom.

Well, this time, DeAnna's in charge—so watch out, fellas! Unfortunately, she's a complete drip, and watching 25 desperate men enact their bizarre, species-specific mating dances (everything from duck calls, to karate kicks, to special-needs abs exhibition) isn't nearly as entertaining as watching 25 French-manicured bitches punching each other's wombs in a no-rules battle royale for their trophy husband. Still, just as we were ready to pack it in and declare this manhunt a washout, who should saunter along but performance-enhancing-drug- and tribal-tattoo-enthusiast Greg, who, eliminated in the first round, promptly liberated himself from the constraints of that evening's formal dress requirements. Greg, you will be missed. Run free with the ca-yotes, our prince among men.

Frameline schedule announced

Frameline, the world's largest film festival devoted to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender filmmakers and images, announced its full program earlier today. The festival runs June 19-29 here in Frisco at the Castro, Roxie, Victoria, and in Berkeley, the Elmwood. I missed the press conference myself and haven't had time to peruse thoroughly, but two items stick out at first glance-over.

First, Derek, Isaac Julien's documentary on the life and art of Derek Jarman, will be playing at the Castro on Sunday, June 29th at 4:30 PM, just before the closing night film, Breakfast With Scot. Derek was my favorite documentary seen at this year's Sundance Film Festival, and I wrote about it here. I know I responded to it so well in part because I knew so little about the boundary-shredding British filmmaker beforehand. I'm curious to know how Frisco's true-blue Jarmaniacs will respond.

Second, this year's Frameline Award is going to its own outgoing festival director Michael Lumpkin, and a seven-film selection of past Frameline hits with real staying power will be included in the festival. I've seen four of them (Gus Van Sant's Mala Noche, the Wachowskis' Bound, Joseph Gaï Ramaka's Karmen Geï and my personal favorite of the quartet, Pedro Almodóvar's Law of Desire) on the big screen before, but never with Frameline audiences. I've never seen the other three (Big Eden, Lilies and Yes Nurse, No Nurse) at all.

See anything else in the guide that looks particularly good?

Finally, The Secret To Jeremy Piven's Mystifying
Success With Women [Cads]

Among the many questions we would love to ask Emmy-winning beach yogi Jeremy Piven, one of our most pressing would be how he manages to convince so many bitches to hug him. Somehow the Entourage ringleader has earned himself the Womanizer reputation ever since throwing out his bit-part baldie wigs and zooming package-first into the spotlight. And as we?ve reported in the past, it can?t be due to his masterful pick-up lines. But thanks to a photo shot this weekend, we have ourselves an answer. Piven?s success with women predictably has less to do with his bravado and more to do with one very studly prop.

Yes, Piven has been reunited with his beloved busted Bronco. And now we finally understand why he looked so sad when his ride punked out on him at a gas station last month. It's his babe magnet! Piven and his macho ride were spotted helping a crowd of lost sun worshippers in the middle of the highway on Sunday, and even we must admit that Piven does look the slightest bit more at home in a hooptie than in the back of some random town car.

Anacondas: The Hunt For The Blood Orchid

Anacondas: The Hunt For The Blood Orchid (2004)
Dir: Dwight H. Little

A scientific expedition is attacked by anacondas while searching for a special orchid in Borneo.
Poor sequel that due to a limited budget has an embarrassing lack of snakes. The effects are somehow worse this time around and the acting is also pretty awful. While the scenery makes it a little easier to sit through this is still a waste of everybody's time.

TROPIC THUNDER: TV Spot #1

Oh, man! This is going to be totally outrageous. If I had attended the test screening back in March, I probably would’ve laughed so hard inside that theater. Not enough that the restricted trailer cracks us up, TROPIC THUNDER has the first TV spot.I gotta tell ya… I understand that Academy Award doesn’t usually recognize comedy, [...]

Speed 3: The McConaughey Syndrome [A Call To The
Bullpen]

boomp3.com

Dazed & Confused star Matthew McConaughey began rehearsals this past weekend in Malibu for the third installment in the popular action film series. In the latest adventure, McConaughey plays a jogger who wakes up with a bomb strapped to his chest that must maintain a certain speed and remain fully clothed in the process. McConaughey calls the part of Sam Johnston to be his most challenging since he goes against every notion he has a human being. McConaughey said, "Being placed into a situation where if I do something that comes so naturally to me means that I'm going to die, I mean, this is the most personal I'm going to get as an actor."
