Tori Spelling Handing Out Free Bumps To Pregnant
Women [Free Shit]

tori.jpgAs you well know by now, we at Defamer are committed to bringing you, the free-ice cream and Tori Spelling-loving people, regular updates on where you can access either of these phlegm-inducing guilty pleasures in the greater Los Angeles area. But we ask that you now hold on to your proverbial hats, as both of these planets are set to collide tomorrow in a star system called Burbank: Tomorrow, Tori will climb behind that branch's counter to dole out samples of their new soft serve ice cream, in celebration of vaguely lactic holiday, "Bump Day." From the press release:

With approximately six million pregnancies reported annually in the United States(1), there are a lot of women craving ice cream for two! To celebrate its introduction of Soft Serve, Baskin-Robbins is turning Wednesday, May 21 into Bump Day, by offering one free 3 oz. serving of Soft Serve to expectant mothers who visit participating stores from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
To kick-off the event, actress and mom-to-be for the second time, Tori Spelling, will be on hand at Baskin-Robbins in Los Angeles providing expectant moms with the first swirls of Soft Serve.

We'd caution you arrive early for your audience with the former 90210 star, as the branch is expecting the line to stretch clear round the block; the longer you wait, the greater your chances of having some overzealous freebie-seeker in her third trimester completely ruin your soft-serve sampling experience by having her water break all over the franchise's floor. In any case, happy Bump Day, everyone! We plan on foregoing the ice cream in favor of celebrating the more traditional way: with our car keys and some strawberry blow.

Thanks for the movies Ray

One of the key venues that aids in the growth/revival of real indie filmmaking (we are still in the early phase of this movement I think) in the US is the Pioneer Theater in Manhattan. And for many filmmakers, the Pioneer Theater meant Ray Privett. After four years of extremely essential work, Ray is moving on to other projects; from the New York Sun:

"...the Pioneer is not just a small venue supporting emerging artists, but the epicenter of an independent film scene that has long since been squeezed out of most cities ? and is currently being forced out of Manhattan ? in favor of corporate-owned independent theater chains that cater to the specialty divisions of major movie studios.

In only eight years of operation, the Pioneer has provided a home for hundreds of self-sustained filmmakers who don?t have a corporate safety net waiting below them; for the last four of those years, every one of those artists has been greeted at the door by the theater?s inimitable programmer, Ray Privett."

and

"...Mr. Privett has overseen the most successful period in the Pioneer?s brief but unstable history."

Read the rest of the Sun article here.

Ray is gone, but The Pioneer lives on, so says Ray at his site:

"The Pioneer is still open. My departure from the Pioneer did not close the Pioneer, nor did the two things coincide. Indeed, my successors booked the three films mentioned in the first paragraph of Mr. Snyder?s article. Clearly, the Pioneer can do interesting things without me. Hopefully they continue to. Good luck to them."

Well, best of luck in your new projects Ray, and thanks a lot for paying attention to real indie film during your time at Pioneer.

Thanks GreenCine Daily for the story.

DUCKY! I Love You, Man! [A Call To The Bullpen]

boomp3.com

Two and Half Men star Jon Cryer received the next level in TSA security pat down while boarding at a film at LAX. It wasn't as much of a pat down as it was a full body pat down that lingered a tad too long in certain areas for Cryer. Cryer said of the experience, "I guess he's a fan, but sometimes, people get a bit too zealous."
